Hunter Batterson (she/her) is a dancer and arts administrator currently based in Minneapolis, MN. Originally from Chicago, IL, she began her multidisciplinary movement training with the Dance and Music Academy before transitioning into a pre-professional program at The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts), studying under the direction of Sarah Ford Thompson and performing in works by Kevin Iega Jeff, Terence Marling, Irma Suárez Ruiz, Brandon DiCriscio, and various student choreographies. At this time, Hunter also received additional instruction through the Kansas City Ballet School and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago summer intensives.
She then went on to pursue her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and minor in History from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, graduating with high distinction in Spring 2021. Here, she had the opportunity to create numerous original choreographies as well as perform in works by Andrea Miller, Vie Boheme, Chris Schlichting, Annie Hanauer, Joe Chvala, and Carl Flink.
Throughout her studies, Hunter was elected as the designated 2020/2021 Student Peer leader for the UMN Dance Department and was on the founding, creative, and administrative leadership team for multiple original projects, including eARThing Productions (UMN, 2020, Head of Programming) and the Theatre Arts and Dance Department’s student-led podcast, The Peercast (UMN, 2021, Head of Programming).
In her current training and performance endeavors, Hunter specializes in Contemporary and Jazz movement forms. In the past, she has also sought opportunities in Musical Theater productions, serving as an ensemble member and featured dancer in Pippin (UMN, 2019, Co-Dance Captain), All Shook Up (Big Deal Productions, 2017), and Sweet Charity (ChiArts, 2015).
Hunter has worked extensively within arts administration, specifically through arts organizations including ARENA DANCES (Performance Donor & Sponsorship Representative), Northrop (Campus & Community Engagement Intern/Associate), and Trifecta Dance Collective.
Hunter is currently the School Coordinator Assistant for Zenon Dance School and the Managing Director for ARENA DANCES. Additionally, she is a performing artist and company member with Borealis Dance Theatre in their 2021/2022 season.
